Airport Expansion Project Assurance

Assurance audits of safety standards and working conditions, as part of DFI refinancing approvals.

For a leading Central American airport operating company, providing assurance of safety standards and working conditions for a taxiway and terminal expansion project, as part of the approval process for DFI financing. The project involved periodic site-based audits of the principal contractor and associated sub-contractors, their collective recognition and management of key construction risks, swell as provision of appropriate labour conditions for the construction workforce. The project involved several fiel-reviews of the construction operations, observations of practices, review of standards, and discussions with principal contractor personal and sub-contractor personnel. The field visits involved a number of direct interventions to stop work where poor risk controls for high-risk tasks was observed. The reporting process involved both client and principal contractor, resulting in the contractor understanding there was a higher standard of risk management that they needed to work to in order to satisfy their client's (airport operator) requirements. Significant performance improvements were observed over a 6-12 month period following the initial baseline assurance audit.
